In the midst of all the motivational quotes, Instagram pictures, Pinterest boards and YouTube videos, I am starting to see a trend: DO MORE!
Luckily for you I am NOT going to promote that today.
This is my reminder to you and to myself: Take A Break!
It’s easy for me to re-post quotes and gems about doing more, hustle harder and work harder than the next guy; but what message does that give? That message can be damaging if it’s taken in excess. It can cause someone to self-sabotage and set themselves up for failure.
That is not my intention.
Maybe this is a lowkey rant on the stagnation I am seeing on some social media sites?
Maybe this is the end result of being on auto-pilot?
Maybe I just answered my own question??
Oh the beauty of dumping thoughts on to paper!!!
Here are some ideas on how to take some shortcuts and/or take a break:
-
Eat breakfast for dinner. If you live alone, have fruit and Cheerios for dinner. One night won’t kill you. Bacon lovers are going to love this one!
-
Take a different route to work, daycare, if possible.
-
Bring a favorite outfit back into rotation.
-
If you work from home, put on a fun outfit. No jeans or yoga pants this week. Notice how you feel once your uniform changes.
-
Frequent a different lunch place or coffee shop in the morning. Switch things up.
-
Use paper plates a few nights a week. I’m sorry to any environmentalists out there but it’s a big relief seeing less dishes at the end of the day. Believe me, it’s a lifesaver in my house, especially when my fibromyalgia flares up.
-
Let’s start calling your to-do list an ACTION PLAN or INTENTION LIST! I saw this on a Periscope last week and I really like this change of language.
Let’s face it. As humans, we are inclined to go with what we know. I wrote in my last post about parents being stuck on auto-pilot. We all get stuck in that mode, even myself. It could explain why I recently chopped off my hair – I was craving change.
This week I’m giving myself a break, eating Cheerios for dinner (sorry honey) and I’m going to look forward to focusing on me.
Tell me how you plan on taking a break this week!
